Coffee hovercraft

Last night I bought a coffee from Krispy Kreme. It was shit.

Today I saw a man driving in a ute, towing a hovercraft.

What about you?

Are we entering a new age of fascism?

Scary thoughts in scary minds.

I think our democracy should progress. Frankly I wonder why it ever stopped. How many of our elected leaders have done anything to further the cause of democracy itself in our own country? Somewhere short of the list of elected officials that vote yes to their own, frequently recurring pay-rises I’m sure. I strongly feel that forms of representative democracy, varying in disconnectedness, cannot be the pinnacle, peak, end or epitome of social evolution. We can go further, and perhaps, we must.

Imagine if you could choose where your tax dollars went directly? As a percentage of your total tax payment. This could be done as part of your tax return. You could guide the decisions of where the cash you pay flows. Passionate about improving the education system? Signify that 40% of your taxes go to education.

Imagine the implications.

This sort of thing, and vastly greater things still, is quite possible to realise. With the technology we currently possess, the software and hardware engineering, design and cryptography knowledge we profess, and the know-how we can seek to collaborate, such a system could be created to facilitate these goals, and see in real-time and utmost, mathematical confidence that it’s done, and cannot be undone. Pure transparency.

Many current and emerging projects are being developed using the same basic concept, but I am unaware of any specifically geared toward the facilitation of improving democracy.

Today I saw Alto cumulus undulatus clouds in the morning

They greeted me as I got to work

Huge polypy blanket hanging in the sky,

Yelling and bursting with deep glowing crimson and stormy streaks of grey

Above the ocean horizon

And it was sun and warm and as I stood amongst the rays and the clouds

Literally in the middle of it

Soaking that warmth up

I thought and I smiled

For but the briefest moment in time before days start

How fleeting but still wonderful remembered

Tiny seconds, nice times of life

A word came up, from the depths of memory, while I cleaned Barramundi tanks today.

It was quite persistent, making its presence well known in my mind for some time.

But what does it mean?

I didn’t know. I couldn’t stop and look it up either because I had work to do.

This sort of thing happens to me from time to time.

A word that I’ve picked up somewhere along the way gets etched in my memory and suddenly hops back into the forefront of my mind. No obvious cue or association precedes it. No cause prior to the effect and no meaning attached, just the word. The string of letters and the pronunciation.

All there, like a title card, but sans any particular significance — except its presence and the curiosity it invokes.

Today ‘platyhelminth‘ manifested in the meat attic between my ears

So what does it mean?

I didn’t know at the time, but I have since found out.

I did have a vague feeling that it had something to do with the ocean.

The platyheminthes are a taxonomic phylum: the flatworms.

Some are found in aquatic environments, the oceans, rivers, swamps, puddles. Others are found in the digestive system of other animals. A few are terrestrial dwelling creatures that inhabit leaf-litter and other shady, humid environments.

Here’s an article about researchers studying planarian flatworms in order to understand their amazing regenerative biology
